Mongolia, thus Far

Unfortunately, I haven't been documenting my time in Mongolia thus far very well, but I'm determined to do better from now on.

I trained in a small town of 2,000 named Orkhon. Orkhon was a beautiful site. Every day, I felt like I was walking through a piece of artwork. The hills changed colors depending on the sun's location, ranging from lavenders to greens to burnt oranges and yellows. Herds of sheeps, cows, and goats grazed among them. When I first arrived, my wonderful host family took me to the river at sunset. Wild horses drank from the river as we skipped rocks across it nearby. Every time I went to the river, I felt as though dinosaurs might just come walking through the bushes because the scenes in front of me just seemed so archaic. Scenes like small pigs swimming in the river while a dog barks at them, chasing their wiggling behinds out. I never really enjoyed zoos, though Mongolia has me captivated by the wildlife I encounter each day.

My host site family was amazing. It was a family of four, including two little girls named Enkhjargal (7) and Zaya (1). The family treated me well. My fellow volunteers even nicknamed me "Gunj" which means princess in Mongolian because my family would give me fruit and drive me in their car which are both fairly rare things here. I was definitely lucky and definitely sad to leave them. I still talk to them every once in awhile now that I'm not in Orkhon. Before the other 10 volunteers and I left, we had a big party for the families. We made American food and put on concert for them. I made burritos and then danced and sang in the concert. It was a great time.

I feel as though I'm leaving so much out! There is just so much to tell! Soon I will blog again about where I am living now and hopefully soon I can put up pictures!
